The game is moving forward pretty quickly and by the end of September I should be finished more or less with the whole game map. I need testers that will go around the map (no story will be implemented). Your job will be to check that areas that should be accessible are accessible and areas that are supposed to be restricted are not open to the player. Submit a contact form if you are interested and when the map is finished I will select a few people and send them a copy of the alpha for testing.
So I noticed that last time I was working on the game I kept on getting sidetracked and was trying to do like 5 things at once. Today I set a goal and that was purely map making. I figured if I already have a map then I can add or remove to the story more easily. I streamed for around 2 hours today and the bulk of it was making a castle where there will be many, many side quests. Im still not close to finishing the castle because most of the stream was me actually figuring out how to make it, what to put in it, etc. I kinda planned it out and created worlds for each area in the castle so my next step in completing that is going to be to finish up all the areas and create events to be able to walk in and out of rooms. After the castle I have planned to make a dangerous path onto the next village (if you've played pokemon you know what im talking about. Enemies will randomly attack you on this path). Then I have to actually make the next village. From the path i plan on making a separate route that leads to a "boss tower" which is basically going to be levels in a tower and you have to fight enemies in each level until you get to the very last boss. I think that i can scatter these around the whole map and have them increase in difficulty along with maybe putting a level restriction on them. These are going to be a good way to get gold and xp and also a way to add more immersion into the game so the game feels less linear and more free roam. From the town that the path goes to i'm going to make it by the seaside so that will allow me to add a port next to the town where there will be a boat that might take you somewhere. After that town I plan to make a bridge going to the third town/village. That's all I have planned so far but there's still a LOT more that i'm going to add. Watch the stream down here: So today I streamed again but only for an hour even though I was hoping I could for a longer time. However, even though I streamed for an hour I got a lot done (jk i didnt do a lot). Basically I spent close to half an hour trying to load in a different title screen only to realize my pic was a JPEG instead of a PNG. After that I kinda screwed around with fonts but since that didn't work, I scrapped the whole font idea and decided to work a little on the story. The first actual mission is going to be pretty straightforward. Basically Hungry's character is going to do exploring in the first town and ill probably put a restriction so the player cannot go into the next town without adding Merome to their party. The way they'll be doing this is by exploring and once they go to the shop they'll click on Merome's character and engage a cutscene where they hear a scream outside and save a villager from a monster. This will be a tutorial in a way as it'll also be a cutscene to show the player how to use the battle/party interface. As always you can watch todays stream down below: After today's progress we can expect the game to release in less than a year. Keep in mind guys that I am a ONE MAN development team so I cant be grinding every day although I will try. Today was a pretty good grind. I created most of the items and enemies in game and tomorrow i'll probably be coding each character to a unique skill set with unique moves. I also created some dialogue with items so when you click them they read a pretty generic sentence, just to add a little immersion into the game. Some problems I ran into today were with a side quest in which you have to find or buy medicine for the farmers sick son. The issue was the farmer kept on repeating the quest and giving the player gold (to buy the medicine) every time you clicked on the farmer, instead of reading out the quest and then asking whether or not you've brought him the medicine yet. I also wrote out the general framework for the first part of the story, from when you start the game all the way until you defeat the first boss. A good thing that happened today was that i was able to livestream development on the game. I streamed for an hour and a half (was afk for a while in the middle). Ill probably be doing more of these streams when i'm working on something cuz its pretty easy to set up and it'll be a good way to document everything that's going down. You can check out the stream here: The Barbarians Quest is a single player RPG set in a medieval time period. The main character Hungry will go on an adventure with several friends with the goal to destroy all evil and restore peace in the world. The game began development on 8/18/2016. Each day we will be posting updates on the game as well as screenshots and we will occasionally release tests of the game for feedback and general bug testing. As of 8/19/2016 the first spawn area has been created along with character sprites. The general story has been outlined but will be added onto with more quests and side missions. Feedback is appreciated and every comment will be considered in the development of this game.
